An Autumn Bucket List

Autumn post header

It’s summer in Scotland and this year I am very thankful for some wonderful warm weather and some very sunny days. We’ve had a record number of BBQs at the cottage, even cooking out multiple times after work, and have sometimes worn shorts and t-shirts – a rare occurrence! However we’ve also had some cooler days when it’s been hard not to think about autumnal clothes and activities.  It’s also been hard not to dread the shortening days and dark mornings/evenings once you pass the longest day so my husband and I have started reminding each other of the nice things we enjoy about the changing seasons. If you’re dreading longer nights too then read on, this post is for you!  Continue reading

One great holiday and reflections on 30!

bday collage

We have just got back from a trip to Florida for my 30th (eeek, actually not so scary) birthday. We had a fab time and I thought I would share some snapshots of that holiday and a reflection on 30!

These are just a few pics from our trip. One day we had a breakfast in the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom with Winnie the Pooh and friends, as it was my birthday trip they brought me a card and a birthday cupcake! How cute – bit emosh! Stuart, my husband, had also ordered me a wonderful cake for my actual birthday, right on theme too. What a guy. On my actual birthday we had an excellent meal at one of our favourite restaurants in the world, not just Disney World, and our waiter sang me happy birthday and brought this cute dessert. So kind. The main pic is me and Stu in Hollywood Studios – being photobombed by my dad! It was such a great trip and a really good way to spend the last days of my 20’s and the first days of my 30’s.  If you want to read more about our WDW holiday then you can check out my trip report on the Disney Tourist Blog forum here. In the end turning 30 wasn’t such a big deal and it has made me reflect recently on all the stuff I will be happy to leave in that last decade… Continue reading

Weekend in the Shire – Wedding Anniversary!

My husband and I have just celebrated our first wedding anniversary and we had such a lovely weekend so I thought I would share how we celebrated with you guys. Your first anniversary is paper which in terms of a gift proved more tricky than I had thought! However, even though we hadn’t collaborated our presents to each other were really complimentary which was fab. So if you are coming up on your first year of celebrating wedded bliss then here are a couple of ideas for you. Continue reading

Weekend in the Shire – Glitter print tutorial

Glitter quote framed print. Make your own. #Crafts #LoveArt |

I hope you have all had a great weekend! It was another super busy weekend in the Shire. Including date night on Saturday, we hadn’t had a date night in a while so we went to one of our favourite restaurants and had a great laugh together, including running back to the car in the rain trying to share our tiny umbrella, lots of fun! You can read my whole post on dating (your husband!) here. Last weekend I updated an old wardrobe by painting it with chalk paint, it has had a great effect and really brightened up the room. This weekend I decided to make some artwork for our bedroom. I’d had the idea of having a quote print and then quite fancied something with a bit of shimmer so out came the Christmas crafting supplies aka the glitter and glue! You can see the finished product above and below I will show you the step by step guide I took to make it!  Continue reading

The Date Jar

Make your own date jar with Notes From The Shire

I mentioned a while back that my husband and I have a date jar that we use to help us pick what we want to do for date night, we also usual it to squirrel away spare change so that we always have cash for a good date! When we got married we decided it would still be really important to keep “dating” (each other obviously!) so that we made time for each other and kept trying new things together and so the date jar was born. I must say at this point that I didn’t even make the jar, I had mentioned the idea to one of my bridesmaids and she made it for me as a gift for my hen/bachelorette do, so it is extra special.

A couple of weekends ago the date jar threw out rock climbing so off we went to our local centre together but I thought I would share a few more ideas from it in case you are inspired to make your own. I have split this post in two as it was getting a bit wordy! So this is part one, I will add a link for part two at a later date. Continue reading

Weekend in the Shire (Part 1) The couple that sweats together, stays together

Unorthodox date outfit, climbing date.

It was a busy weekend at our cottage in the Shire. On Friday we celebrated our six-month-a-versary! 6 months has absolutely flown in and we are really enjoying being newly-weds and getting our home together sorted out. We had a cosy evening at home, in front of the fire with a bottle of fizz(y apple juice – even anniversaries don’t break the alcohol free health kick). We also had a visitor for the weekend, my dog Gus – probably the only Jack Russell in the world with a weekend home! He lives with my parents (and his brother Archie) all week and visits us at weekends.  Continue reading
